Happiness being together

Researches have shown that people who were unrealistically idealistic about their partners when they they got married are more likely to be happier with their marriage. This was the finding published by the Psychological Research, a journal of the association for psychological science in USA.

The finding is against the traditional wisdom. The wisdom seem to argue that, if you are putting to high an expectation, it will be more likely that you will become frustrated when the expectation is not met. If you idealize a person, you will be bound to be upset when the later truth reveal that the person is not perfect.

The study was conducted based on the sample taken in Buffalo, New York.222 couples agreed to subscribe to the research. The participants agreed to fill up a survey every 6 month.

At the beginning of their marriage, the couples were asked to rank their expectations. These expectations were grouped and ranked into various categories of expectations, such as: less idealistic and unrealistically idealistic.

The people with unrealistic idealistic showed to be happier 3 years later.
